The ZAV Artist Placement Service
The ZAV Artist Placement Service is a Federal Employment Agency service. Operated by the International and Specialised Services (ZAV), it provides artists with placements for the stage and production . It works not only nationwide but also across Europe via the EURES (European Employment Services) network. There are seven regional offices in Berlin, Hamburg, Hanover, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart. The main aim of the Artist Placement Service is to find placements for applicants looking for dependent employment. Artists who work on stage are prioritised (opera singers / dancers etc.) and there is a heavy focus on the performing arts. However, there are also many placements available to backstage /technical professions like lighting technicians and makeup artists. The placement scheme is completely free of charge and is a very popular service for both employers and applicants..
A worldwide service
The ZAV artists' agency operates internationally, so it is definitely worthwhile registering if you are an actor / model etc. Being available on an international level can be a huge advantage, especially for newcomers ; the more experience you gain from different contexts and cultures, the greater the chance of gaining more experience and having a wide range of references. The ZAV also works closely with European universities and talent agencies and observes the differences in the markets. In cooperation with EURES, the network of EU employment services and work projects, the ZAV promotes the mobility and flexibility of performing artists across Europe.
Decades of experience to show for it
The ZAV Artist Placement Service has been running for decades- not only do they find work for applicants, but they also give advice and answer any questions new applicants may have. The service acts as an interface between artists and job providers so it is therefore an important point of contact for beginners in the industry.
